The recent political climate has been a depressing factor for my work. I respond by depicting a hopeless situation in cloth. This garment was deigned for a three-woman show at the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center, Kerrville, TX. The theme is " Heaven and Nature Sing" from the supposed Christmas carol "Joy to the World." I did some research on the song ad found out that it was composed by Isaac Watts in 1719 and is actually a herald of the second coming of Christ, not a song to celebrate His birthday. This explains somewhat the refrain of the 3rd stanza, "far as the curse is found, far as the curse is found." This suited my mood perfectly as pollution, habitat destruction. over fishing and over consumption are fast destroying life as we know it. "Gyre" suggests the great Pacific Garbage patch, a vortex of marine debris in the North Pacific ocean.
